Barbie Beach this past weekend

It is County Fair time all around Georgia, and Barbie Beach in Sharpsburg is heralding the arrival of Coweta County's fair season. Yes, folks, this is Barbie Beach, a haven for discarded Barbie dolls unfazed by rain, wind, sun and the occasional cloud of exhaust from nearby vehicles.
If you click on the picture above, you might see Shrek and a couple of the M&M's guys on Barbie Beach.

Who knew that painted coffee cups or tea cups on a tacky plastic disk makes a perfect fair ride?

Throughout the year, while absent of hairdos, plastic pink heels and ok, for the most part, clothing, Barbie and friends are seen gathering for a variety of events such as volleyball games, July 4 fireworks, and even welcoming soldiers home. Why? Well, there was a story from the Times-Herald in Newnan and the... ahem... "artists" of this display were said to have the desire to make passersby smile as they make their ways along Highway 16 to and from Newnan and Senoia. Smile? Well, ok, but as you know "art" is in the eye of the beholder. I must admit I do look forward to seeing what Barb and the gang are up to after being on the highway for four solid hours. It ranks right up there with that human instinct of watching a train wreck. You just shake your head and wonder, "why??? WHY???"
Ok, this made me smile...the "Giant" 50 foot couple installation on the display. Woody's not holding up very well. Yeah, it was funny, but then again I'd been traveling a long, long, long, time, and even Ninja Man was laughing at my jokes. Is that a gourd in place of a hot air balloon? Oh, these folks are creative.

The designers of Barbie Beach said they once had vandals ransack the beach. "How could you tell?" Would have been this newspaper interviewer's question. When word got out about the demise of Barbie Beach, locals began to drop off bags of dolls so the husband and wife team could create yet another beach for the naked dolls. And by the way, the dolls who have clothing wear it until it falls off from exposure to the elements.

So now you've seen Barbie Beach. I didn't even charge admission. You can thank me later.
